Joy Harcup has over 20 years’ personal leadership experience,
including serving on Boards within the public and not-for-profit sectors.


Joy will help you:

  • identify what you want to achieve professionally and personally – and why;
  • develop your focus, resilience and individual leadership style so you can achieve those goals;
  • increase your self-awareness so you can adapt the way you behave to progress faster.

She’ll do this by taking a commercially minded and rounded approach. This involves:

  • tailoring her approach to meet your organisational and personal leadership goals and values;
  • developing your strategic knowledge and operational skills to increase performance;
  • helping you change your behaviour in line with your own distinctive leadership style, where appropriate.

She also works with Boards to improve cohesion and individual relationships, to help the Board as a whole reach its strategic business goals.

Joy is a highly experienced executive coach and has coached hundreds of leaders.
In 2005, she established Harcup Consulting, which has clients in the UK and throughout the world.
Harcup Consulting works in the private, public and third sectors.


Joy is:

  • An experienced leadership coach who specialises in coaching:
    - established leaders in organisations going through change;
    - new leaders who are changing role;
    - established leaders retiring from a role;
    - leaders who need to remain resilient under pressure.

  • A long-standing Chair, Director or Governor of organisations in the public/not-for-profit sectors.

  • Past President of the UK Board of the International Coach Federation (UK ICF), the largest global professional body for coaches with 30,000 members worldwide.

  • Formerly a lawyer, specialising in commercial dispute resolution. She was also in management at an award-winning international professional services firm.

  • A Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coach Federation (ICF).

  • A MBA graduate (Distinction) from Bath University. She co-authored academic research, published in the highly rated journal Management Learning, on how coaching leaders also improves the performance of their teams.

  • A regular speaker at coaching and leadership development conferences. She has been a keynote speaker at conferences in the UK and has spoken at conferences or given webinars in e.g. the USA and India.

  • Previously the UK ICF representative on Government and coaching industry panels promoting best practice. She also sits on Global ICF governance and standards committees.

  • A Director of the Future of Coaching Collaboration (FCC) group. The FCC promotes co-operation between corporate purchasers of coaching, academics and professional bodies to enhance clarity and thought leadership in the coaching market.

  • The holder of various other coaching qualifications including: a Graduate of the Advanced Corporate Coaching Programme of Coach U Inc and Certificates in Coaching Psychology (CIPD), Systemic Team Coaching (Academy of Executive Coaching) and Dynamics at Board Level (The Tavistock Institute).

  • Qualified to administer a range of psychometric tests and assessments including Leadership EQ-i (measuring emotional intelligence) and MTQ 48 (assessing mental toughness).

  • A Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
